A list of all playable available racers in Mario Kart Tour. All racers must be unlocked through one of several methods. One is through the game's gacha mechanic, in which the player can spend rubies (earned in-game or purchased with real world currency) to fire a pipe which will unlock a racer, kart or glider at random. Additionally, a different character will be available in the shop on a daily basis and can be purchased for an amount of coins. Some characters may also be available as Tour Gifts for progressing through a tour at a certain rate. When beginning a game, the player will receive Toad or Toadette as their first driver. After the tutorial, there will also be a free pipe-firing that will give the player Peachette, Metal Mario or Dry Bowser.
Drivers
Drivers are divided into three rarity levels: Normal, Super and High-End. The original pool of characters available in the game, during the inaugural New York Tour of September 2019, consisted of Bowser, Baby Daisy, Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dry Bones, Dry Bowser, Koopa Troopa, Mario, Metal Mario, Peach, Peachette, Shy Guy, Toad, Toadette and Yoshi, with Pauline and Mario (Musician) as tour-exclusive racers.
For all characters outside of the starting pool, the tour and date they were first available will be noted, as well as whether they were/are tour-exclusive and the tour in which a formerly tour-exclusive character became regularly available.

These are the 'normal' forms of each character in the game, which are typically added before variants. The only exception is Donkey Kong Junior, who has only been made available in a variant form.

Additionally, Miis were made available in the game in March 2022 during the Mii Tour. Suits were made available for the Miis. The default is a Red Suit, while Bronze, Silver and Gold Suits could be earned by completing tier challenges. Other Racing Suits were made available for purchase during certain tours, most of which were themed after specific racers.
Variants
The variants are characters in different outfits/costumes/forms. There are a mix of variants drawing on the character's history and new ones made for the game, including some based on real-world fashions.
