The Armored Cannon Beetle is an insect that spits out large boulders. It made its original appearance in Pikmin.

Information

What is unkown to be a boss in Pikmin, Armored Cannon Beetles are tough creatures to beat, but almost always possess a part of Olimar's spaceship. They compress air within their bladders, then use it to expel large chunks of rock from their mouths. These rocks are used primarily to defend, as the Armored Cannon Beetle appears to have little appetite for organic material.

The Armored Cannon Beetle's shell is hard enough to protect it from most attacks. If an Armored Cannon Beetle's snout is plugged while it is compressing air, however, it will involuntarily open its wings, revealing its soft underbelly and giving a predator opportunity to strike it. The larval form of the Armored Cannon Beetle doesn't possess a shell, so presumably it is developed during or after metamorphosis.

Trivia

• Armored Cannon Beetles take at least 30 pikmin to carry, but will produce 50 seeds when taken to an onion.
• Armored Cannon Beetles are one of five creatures in Pikmin that did not reappear in Pikmin 2, though the larval form of this particular creature did. The other four are Goolix, Pearly Clamclamps, Puffstools, and the Smoky Progg.
