Debut | The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time |
The Hover Boots are a special set of boots that have appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Information[edit]
The Hover Boots are a pair of boots which contain golden soles with wing-like ornaments. These mysterious boots can float close to the ground and could be used to run across thin air for short periods of time. The main use of the boots is for crossing small gaps. They are also useful in some areas where Link would otherwise sink, such as in areas containing quicksand. The boots' main disadvantage is that they have no traction, which makes it hard to properly navigate while wearing them.
In Ocarina of Time, the Hover Boots were found in the Shadow Temple and were referred to as the "sacred feet".
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In Hyrule Warriors, the Hover Boots appear as a badge that lengthens the duration of a warrior's Focus Spirit.
- In Cadence of Hyrule, the Hover Boots appeared as one of several types of boots that the player character could obtain. As in the original appearance, it allowed the player to take several steps over open air or water. Like other accessory items, each pair of Hover Boots could only be used until their durability meter depleted or the player obtains a different pair of boots.
Trivia[edit]
- Although they did not appear until Ocarina of Time, the Hover Boots share similarities with and seem to be based on the boots that appeared in previous games.
- The Boots from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link are also associated with holy power (being called 'Holy Boots' in Japanese) and are used to walk on water, similar to the Hover Boots' function. These boots also have attached wings. The official player's guide for the The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition played up the connection by calling these boots the "Winged Boots" and representing them with a graphic that was nearly identical to the Hover Boots.
- The Hover Boots can also be seen as a successor to the Pegasus Boots, since the Hover Boots increase Link's speed (though not as much as the Pegasus Boots) and both are depicted as winged boots. Some games have also shown Pegasus Boots as being able to cross some gaps, which is similar to the Hover Boots' function.
- The Hover Boots are shown as equipment on the collection screen in the original version of Ocarina of Time, so that players had to manually equip and un-equip the Hover Boots to suit their needs. The 3D remake made this simpler by changing the Hover Boots into another inventory item that could be equipped to a button.
