There is a Prince and Pauper-esque relationship between the two, in that they look alike and were born on the same day at the same time but to completely different families. Eightch's family has the currently unelaborated gift to create water out of nothingness. Having settled in the Nevada Desert, they used this gift to sell water at ridiculous prices to foolish travelers who didn't stock up first and have thus become very, very rich.
