Crocodile Isle is homeland of the Kremling race that was featured as the setting of Donkey Kong Country 2 and Land 2.

Information[edit]

Crocodle Isle consisted of one mountainous landmass that towered into the sky, with different tiers of the island containing different areas. This included a variety of areas such as forests, swamps, mines and volcanic areas. K. Rool, the leader of the Kremlings, had his own towering castle located atop Crocodile Isle. Hidden far beneath the island was an area known as the Lost World, which was said to the original source of the Kremlings. The Lost World contained a special area called Krocodile Kore, which released a mysterious stream of energy that seemed to provide power to the island. In general, Crocodile Isle was known for containing a gloomy atmosphere.

During the events of Donkey Kong Country 2 and Land 2, the Kremlings were based on Crocodile Isle after K. Rool kidnapped Donkey Kong. They sported a pirate theme at this time, with K. Rool being known as Kaptain K. Rool. Diddy and Dixie went on an adventure through the different areas of the island in order to save Donkey Kong. They were assisted by Cranky, Wrinkly, Funky and Swanky, who set up shop in various areas of the island. Additionally, Klubba ran a kiosk where the Kongs could be allowed to travel to an area of the Lost World in exchange for paying a toll in the form of Kremcoins.

In the game's true ending, K. Rool was defeated by being knocked into the energy stream at Krocodile Kore and temporarily plugging it. This caused it to unleash a pent-up stream of energy that tore through the top of Crocodile Isle. The entire island proceeded to sink into the ocean.

The Kremlings would later utilize a mechanical island of the same name in Donkey Kong 64.

Locations[edit]

Crocodile Island is divided into several different areas that serve as worlds to explore in Donkey Kong Country 2 and Land 2. They are located along different tiers of the island.

  • Gangplank Galleon - This was not technically part of the island, but it served as the first world in both games. The Gangplank Galleon was the scuttled remains of K. Rool's flagship that had appeared in the first Donkey Kong Country and was located along the isle's coast. The boss of this area was Krow.
  • Crocodile Cauldron - Located at the coast level of the island, Crocodile Cauldron was the second world. It was a gigantic cave with an opening in the shape of a crocodile's head and contained systems of smaller caves. It was a volcanic area that was filled with lava, as well as some areas that were instead filled with boiling water. The area also contained several mining shafts. The boss of this area was a living sword named Kleever.
  • Krem Quay - The third world of the game located along the island's bottom tier, Krem Quay was a swamp that apparently used to be Crocodile Isle's port. Most of the water there was murky enough that the assistence of Glimmer the Angler Fish was needed. The area also contained a large sunken ship and a bramble field. Kudgel acted as its boss. K. Rool also fell into the swamp after being defeated at the Flying Krock, at which point it was shown that sharks also inhabited the swamp.
  • Krazy Kremland - Krazy Kremland was an amusement park located on the second tier of the island and acted as the fourth world of the game. It was adorned with giant statues of several different types of Kremlings. The area contained a series of roller coasters that were in several states of disrepair. It also contained a series of giant beehives and a small swamp. The boss of this area was King Zing.
  • Gloomy Gulch - Gloomy Gulch was the fifth world of the game and located on the third tier of the island. It was a haunted forest containing several supernatural aspects, such as ghostly ropes and a library containing a roller coaster that was haunted by Kackle. There was one area of the forest known for its unusually strong winds, and it also contained one giant beehive. The boss of this area was the ghost of Krow, fought in an area that was a replcia of part of the Gangplank Galleon.
  • K. Rool's Keep - K. Rool's towering castle acted as the sixth world of the game and was built into the top of the island. The area contained several icy caverns and a mine shaft in addition to the keep itself, which was filled with obstacles and traps such as rising floors and an area that filled with a toxic substance. This area had no boss in the original version, but in the Game Boy Advance remake, a boss named Kerozene was added.
  • The Flying Krock - The Flying Krock was K. Rool's airship that was stationed in the air above his keep and acted as the seventh world of the game, although it only consisted of two levels, counting the boss level. The Flying Krock itself was not technically part of the island, but this area did contain one bramble-filled area known as Screech's Sprint, which seemed to be located adjacent to the top of K. Rool's Keep.
  • The Lost World - The Lost World was the bonus area of both games that needed to be completed to access the game's full ending. This area was apparently located far underground and was said to be where the Kremlings originated from. It was a jungle that contained a volcano and an ice cavern. At the center of a large lake, there was a a volcano-like structure with a Kremling face carved into one side of it and a stream of energy constantly pulsing from its crater. That structure was known as Krocodile Kore. The Kongs could only access one level of the Lost World at a time by paying Klubba at each of his kiosks, and they could only access Krocodile Kore after clearing all of those other levels. This was where the final battle with Kaptain K. Rool was held, and where the chain reaction that destroyed Crocodile Isle was set into motion.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Japanese, it was known simply as Kremling Island.
  • There were several changes made to the island in Donkey Kong Land 2, presumably due to the Game Boy's technical limitations. Crocodile Cauldron and Krem Quay were combined into one area known as Krem Cauldron, with Kleever serving as the boss while Kudgel was omitted from the game. Additionally, the Land 2 version of Krocodile Kore appeared to be a normal volcano rather than containing the stream of energy, although the island still sunk in the ending.
