Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis is an action/puzzle game that acts the Nintendo DS sequel to the first Mario vs. Donkey Kong. The game adds to the Donkey Kong homage by including the long-absent character Pauline. In this game, the player controls the Mini-Mario toys instead of Mario himself.

Story[edit]

While Mario and Pauline are showing off the Mini-Marios at the Super Mini Mario World grand opening, Donkey Kong falls in love with Pauline and offers her a Mini-Donkey Kong toy at the same time that Mario was presenting her with a Mini-Mario toy. After Pauline chooses the Mini-Mario toy and rubs it against her face, Donkey Kong's lust turns to rage. He captured Pauline and takes her to the roof of Super Mini Mario World. The door is sealed shut before Mario can enter, but he is able to send in the Mini-Marios to act in his place.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay works significantly different than its predecessor. This time, the players direct and control the Mini-Marios through levels using the Stylus. They have to clear stages within time limits and be kept out of danger. This makes the gamplay style similar to Lemmings, or the Japan-only game Mario & Wario.

Legacy[edit]

This installment changed the direction of the series from being about Mario reprising Donkey Kong-style gameplay to being about guiding the Mini-Marios through various levels.

Ports/Remakes[edit]

Sequels[edit]

It was followed by Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, which was released as DSiWare. The next installment to be released as a physical game was Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!.
