Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland is a spinoff game of the Zelda series starring the character Tingle thar was made for the Nintendo DS. The game was initially released in Japan in 2006 and did not see a European release until a year later. It was never released in North America.
Story[edit]
Tingle is a 35-year old man who lives alone near Port Town. One day he receives a psychic message from an unknown person. He is urged to approach a nearby fountain where he meets Uncle Rupee, a being with a head shaped like a Rupee. He tantalizes Tingle with the promise of a land called Rupeeland, where no one ever has to work hard. All Tingle has to do is to keep throwing Rupees into a pond that eventually becomes a tower. If he does it enough, then Rupeeland is just around the corner...
Gameplay[edit]
Tingle's number of rupees acts as an equivalent to a health bar, and the player gets a game over by running out of rupees. There are many monsters within the game, and Tingle does not have fighting skills of his own. Although Tingle can get in scuffles himself, the amount of rupees he loses by fighting is not always worth the payout. For that reason, Tingle can recruit one of thirty bodyguards who will fight for him or fight with him. Their services are not cheap, as the more they cost, the better they fight.
The game revolves around getting more and more rupees. Tingle can collect ingredients from the different islands and use them in recipes. Each recipe has a different use - including being sold to the right person for quick cash. Tingle can also make out maps of each island and earn hefty bonuses for his services. But the best way to make money is helping people out and progressing through dungeons. For his heroic and generous efforts, Tingle can greedily demand large fees for his services. But if Tingle asks for too much, then he'll get nothing.
But to get through the game, Tingle has to pay rupees too. Unfortunately people are just as greedy as he is and want to make as much money as possible. Most people won't give Tingle a price, so the player has to make a bid for an item or information. But if the player underbids, then Tingle gets nothing and loses his money anyways. In order to succeed, Tingle must become a master negotiator so that he does not underpay or overplay.
Legacy[edit]
This was the first of several Tingle-themed spin-off games developed by Vanpool.
Sequels[edit]
It received a sequel in 2009 called Color Changing Tingle's Love Balloon Trip. Unlike the first game, that one was not released outside of Japan.
