Bonsly is a small and thick Pokémon with a tree-like appearance that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It was created as the baby form for the second generation Pokémon Sudowoodo.

Bonsly will only be hatched from an egg (as opposed to a Sudowoodo) if the Sudowoodo parent is holding a Rock Incense during the breeding process. Bonsly is a Pokémon that prefers arid environments. It looks like it is always crying, but this is because it is adjusting its body's fluid levels by eliminating excess. Bonsly leaks water from its eyes in order to fix its moisture level. It evolves into Sudowoodo when it levels up after learning Mimic.

In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum Versions, Bonsly could only be placed in the Trophy Garden randomly on a daily basis. In Pearl, it also appeared at Routes 209 and 210, being somewhat common during the morning but rare at all other times of the day. Bonsly could be caught through the Pokéwalker at the Big Forest course, and it could then be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Bonsly made an early appearance in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, where the player could rescue a Bonsly that was lost by a trainer at the ONBS Station. The player will receive a bingo sheet for Bonsly so that a Bonsly knowing Rock Slide could be used for Battle Bingo, acting as a gameplay preview of the then-upcoming Pokémon in action. A statue of Bonsly could be unlocked in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team as another preview. Bonsly could be recruited at the eighth through fourteenth floors of Mt. Horn in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Ranger School and Vien Forest. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Mt. Latolato and the Forest Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Etenral Tower. Bonsly also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Meadow Zone, Cavern Zone and Lava Zone.

Video Games
*Bonsly appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as one of the Pokémon that could be summoned at random from the Poké Ball item. When summoned, it merely walks around the stage, and any of the fighters could pick it up to toss it as others. Bonsly acted as an effective weapon due to his weight. Its appearance in the game was also reflected through a trophy and a sticker.

In Other Media
*In the Pokémon anime, a Bonsly appeared in the eighth movie where it followed Ash's group around. Brock later obtained his own baby Bonsly late into the Battle Frontier series and raised it until it evolved into a Sudowoodo early in the Sinnoh series.

Trivia
*Its name is a play on "bonsai", a type of miniature tree that it is based on, possibly combined with "sly".
