Elekid is a small horned electric Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It was introduced as the baby form of Electabuzz, and in the fourth generation it was further established as the first stage in a three-step evolutionary line, with its new final form being Electivire.

Elekid stores electricity in its body, although it tires easily and so does not charge up much. It spins its arms in a circle to charge electricity, at which point the space between its twin plug-like horns glows bluish-white with a weak electric current that can shock the unwary. They will accidentally lose their charge if they touch metal, at which point they usually spin their arms again to recharge. Elekid play happily in even the most vicious storms due to their love of violent thunder.

Elekid evolves into Electabuzz at Level 30.

Elekid is primarily obtained from the second generation onwards by hatching eggs laid by Electabuzz. In Pokémon: Crystal Version, the Daycare Couple on Route 34 gives the player an egg that has an equal chance of hatching into an Elekid or any of the other second generation baby Pokémon. It could be caught at the Amity Meadow and Suburban Area courses of the Pokéwalker, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In Diamond and Pearl, Elekid uncommonly appeared at Route 205 and Valley Windworks when a FireRed cartridge was present in the GBA slot. In White, it appeared at White Forest.

An Elekid from one of the second generation color versions could be used as a playable character in the "Pichu's Power Plant" minigame of Pokémon Stadium 2, competing in charging electric generators alongside Pichu and possibly Pikachu. In Pokémon Puzzle Challenge, Elekid could be unlocked by hatching it from the Lightning Egg. Elekid made an appearance in the "Gotcha!" e-Reader short where chased a Smoochum only to be cornered by a Jynx that froze it with Mean Look and kissed it. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 6, Secret Storage 18, Endless Level 2 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the fourth through fifth floors of Thunderwave Cave, the fifteenth through twenty-second floors of Lightning Field and the forty-first through fifty-ninth floors of Buried Relic, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could only be recruited at the first eight floors of Far Amp Plains.

*In the Pokémon anime, Elekid was introduced in one of the Pikachu shorts as one of Pikachu's friends. During the Johto series, a trainer named Casey caught an Eelekid during one of the first episodes, and it remained part of her team in her later appearances. In one episode of the Battle Frontier series, Ash's group was pitted against an Elekid that was absorbing too much electricity and electrocuted various other Pokémon until it was calmed down by being defeated by Pikachu. In the Sinnoh series, an Elekid was featured as one of Paul's Pokémon and eventually evolved into Electabuzz partway through the series during a battle with Ash. Other Elekid have made various other minor appearances, including one episode where an Elekid and Piplup were in a love triangle with a Marill.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, an Elekid was initially shown during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc as one of the Pokémon belonging to Ken of the Team Rocket Elite Trio. During the Diamond/Pearl arc, Elekid was shown as one of Volkner's Pokémon and was very swift, although Platina was able to defeat it using her Lopunny.

Trivia
*Its name is a simple combination of "electric" and "kid" (due to its youth).
