'''Hoothoot''' is a nocturnal owl Pokémon introduced in the second generation Pokémon games.

=Information=

Hoothoot is a round owl-like Pokémon that stands on one foot at all times. It switches its standing foot too fast to be noticed, and will not brace with both feet even if attacked. It also has a perfect sense of time, apparently due to a special organ that senses and tracks the earth's rotation. It keeps rhythm by precisely tilting its head in time and begins hooting at the exact same time every day. This has led some trainers to use them in place of clocks.

Some countries consider Hoothoot to be a wise friend that is well-versed in the world's ways. It evolves into [[Noctowl]] at Level 20.

Unless they are obtained by headbutting trees (where they are found at all times of day), they only appeared at night. In ''HeartGold''/''SoulSilver'', they could also be obtained through the [[Pokéwalker]], where they are found at the Rugged Path, Residential Area and Edge of the Night's Sky courses.

In ''[[Pokémon: Emerald Version|Emerald]]'', Hoothoot could be caught in the Safari Zone. In ''[[Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions|Diamond, Pearl]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: Platinum Versions|Platinum]]'', it appeared on Routes 210 and 211 as well as the Great Marsh (as well as Eterna Forest and Route 205 in ''Platinum'') at night.

In ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams]]'', Hoothoot was found at the tenth through twelfth floors of Sinister Woods, the first five floors of Northern Range, the fifth through ninth floors of Buried Relic and the first three basement floors of Remains Island. In ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness]]'', it appeared on the first five floors of the Foggy Forest.

*Hoothoot has made appearances throughout the Pokémon anime, starting with an early episode of the Johto arc in which rental Hoothoots were given out by the elderly Hagatha to act as guides through a haunted forest. [[Blue|Gary]] also once used a rental Hoothoot, and [[Falkner]] used one in his battle with Ash that defeated his [[Chikorita]] but was beaten by his [[Pikachu]].
*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Hoothoot appeared that was being used by a con man for a scam in which Hoothoot was supposed to declare when the time limit was up, but would actually declare it when the player was on the verge of winning, until Gold busted them.
