Linoone evolves from Zigzagoon at Level 20. They always run at full speed and only in straight lines. Linoone make sharp right angle turns when they need to avoid objects and usually have to make a full stop before doing so. Curved roads are challenges for them. It is capable of topping 60 miles per hour as it runs in pursuit of prey, but it often fails due to.its need to run in a straight line. When a Linoone spots prey in a nearby pond, it will quickly leap in and snatch it up using its sharp claws.

In Ruby and Sapphire, Linoone was uncommonly found at Routes 118, 119, 120, 121 and 123, while in Emerald it was less common and restricted to only Routes 118 and 119. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, they could uncommonly appear at Routes 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 34, 35, 42, 43, 44, 45 and 47, outside the Ruins of Alph and Mt. Silver when playing Hoenn Sound on the radio, and they could also appear at the Safari Zone's Peak area if enough Plains objects were present. Linoone could also be caught at the Hoenn Field course of the Pokéwalker, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold and SoulSilver.

*In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Hoenn series featured a Linoone that stole round objects from other trainers without the knowledge of its master, Kimmy. This included Poké Balls containing some of May's Pokémon. It ultimately turned out that Linoone was stealing round objects because it missed playing catch with Kimmy, and Kimmy agreed to spend more time with Linoone after releasing this.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Linoone only made a brief appearance during the Ruby/Sapphire arc as a wild Pokémon that Sapphire quickly defeated during her training. During the Emerald arc, Emerald used a rented Linoone equipped with a Choice Scarf to easily fight through the Battle Factory, and its Frustration attack was made more powerful by Emerald and the Pokémon not really knowing each other.

Trivia
*Its name is a combination of "line" (due to its body being pointed to resemble a line as well as its habit of running in straight lines in contrast to Zigzagoon) with "raccoon" (although it has a clearer resemblance to a badger).
