'''Pineco''' is an armored pinecone-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. Its evolved form is [[Forretress]].

=Information=

Pineco usually hang from tree branches and wait patiently for prey, which are usually flying insects, to come along. They do not move much by their own, and they are disturbed by someone shaking their tree, they have been known to plummet to the ground and explode as a result. Pineco resembles a pinecone because of its shell which protects it from bird Pokémon that try to peck it on accident. It can make its shell thicker by adding layers of tree bark, as they are not bothered by the extra weight.

It glues tree bark to its body using a special fluid that it spits out. The fluid hardens upon touching solid air. Pineco evolves into Forretress at Level 31.

In ''[[Pokémon: FireRed and LeafGreen Versions|FireRed, LeafGreen]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: Emerald Version|Emerald]]'', they could be found in the Altering Cave with the use of an [[e-Reader|e-card]], and in ''Emerald'' they were also rarely found at the Safari Zone.

In ''[[Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Versions|Diamond, Pearl]]'' and ''[[Pokémon: Platinum Version|Platinum]]'', they uncommonly appeared through the dual slot method at Routes 203, 204, 210 and 229 and Eterna Forest when an ''Emerald'' cartridge was inserted in the GBA slot. In ''[[Pokémon: Black and White Versions|Black and White]]'', they appeared at Route 16 in swarms.

A Shadow Pineco could be snagged from Cipher Peon Gonrag at Phenac City in ''[[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness]]'', and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In ''[[Pokémon Trozei!]]'', it appeared at Endless Level 37, Endless Level 58, Forever Level 19 and Mr. Who's Den. In ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams]]'', they could be recruited at the first five floors of Mt. Freeze,as well as the sixty-first through sixty-fourth floors of Wish Cave and Joyous Tower, and in ''[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness|Explorers of Time and Darkness]]'', it could be recruited at the eighth through fourteenth floors of Mt. Horn. In ''[[Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia]]'', it was found at Union Road and Peril Cliffs. Pineco was also found in ''[[Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs]]'' at Mitonga Road and Forest Temple.

*In the Pokémon anime, [[Brock]] caught a Pineco near Azalea Town when he was testing out [[Kurt]]'s Fast Balls early in the Johto series. His Pineco was somewhat angry and would often blow up in front of Brock. It evolved over a hundred episodes later while protecting wild Pokémon at a hotspring, at which point its attitude towards Brock softened. Other Pineco have made primarily minor appearances.
*In the ''Pokémon Adventures'' manga, Pineco made a small appearance in a chapter of the ''Gold''/''Silver''/''Crystal'' arc where [[Red]] had to fight two of them as part of the aptitude test he took to be gym leader of Viridian City.
