-Politoed evolves from a Poliwhirl that has been traded to another trainer while holding a King's Rock. It has a curled hair on its head which acts as proof of its status as king. The longer and curlier the hair is, the more respect that Politoed earns from others. Politoed gathers groups of others as their leader and can expand their throats to croak a tune. Their echoing cries attract Poliwag and Poliwhirl, whom obey them. Whenever three of more Politoed gather together, they sing in a voice that sounds like bellowing.

As a Poliwhirl it had lost a fight with a Poliwrath, which prompted her to consider evolving it, and she left it with Nurse Joy during a tournament. As it secretly had grabbed the King's Rock that Ash had won, it wound up evolving by the time Misty used it at the end of the episode against Team Rocket.
