Remoraid is a small Pokémon that can suck in water and the use its abdominal muscles to shoot it out. It usually uses this ability to shoot down flying prey. Remoraid are known for their accuracy, as they can shoot down moving targets from over 300 feet away and even from deep within the sea. They can also shoot water from their mouths to propel themselves backwards in order to escape from an attacking enemy.

Remoraid is also connected to Mantine. They can use their dorsal fins as suction pads to stick to the underside of a Mantine, where they live off Mantine's scraps like scavengers. They seem to have a similar relationship with Mantyke and actually must be within its vicinity to cause its evolution to Mantine. Remoraid are known to swim down rivers when their own evolution approaches. It evolves into Octillery at Level 25.

In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Remoraid was uncommonly found by fishing with the Super Rod (as well as the Good Rod in HeartGold/SoulSilver, where it was rarer) at Route 44, and they appeared in greater numbers during swarms. It could also be caught at the Beyond the Sea and White Lake courses of the Pokéwalker, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver.

In LeafGreen, Remoraid could be fished somewhat commonly with the Super Rod at Five Island, Six Island and Seven Island. In Emerald, they could be fished with the Good or Super Rod at the Safari Zone's extension. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could be fished with the Good Rod at Routes 213, 222, 223, 224 and 230, Pastoria City, Sunyshore City and the Pokémon League. *In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Johto series featured an area called Remoraid Mountain where many Remoraid used to live until an old tribe used up all the resources there. During the episode, Ash's group manages to get the river flowing again, with Remoraid coming with it. Misty makes a failed attempt to catch one, and the group of Remoraid then send Team Rocket blasting off after they try to capture them. In another episode, a trainer named Marcellus owned an aquarium of Remoraid, and he used one during a Whirl Cup battle which evolved into Octillery. The other Remoraid shunned Octillery at first, but after they all worked together to beat Team Rocket, they evolved into Octillery as well and got along. They have also made other minor appearances throughout the series.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Remoraid was featured in a chapter of the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc in which a swarm of them attacked Fisherman Wilton's boat while he was giving Crystal and Yellow passage to the Whirl Islands. Crystal was able to catch them with ease, and it was revealed that their swarm was actually caused by a panicked retreat from the awakened Lugia. The Remoraid later wound up being passed on to Gold, and they were used to support his Mantine so that it could fly.

Trivia
*Its name seems to be a combination of "remora" (a type of fish which Remoraid resembles) and "raid". It was designed to resemble a type of revolver in the same way that its evolution was made to resemble a cannon.

*Remoraid has also appeared as part of Mantine's battle sprite for the first three generations and in its official art.
