'''Ryme''' is a Gym Leader of the [[Paldea]] region who appears as an opponent in the ninth generation games of the ''[[Portal: Pokémon|Pokémon]]'' series, ''[[Pokémon Scarlet and Violet]]''. She specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon.

=Background=

Ryme was a renowned rapper whose career originated back in her teenage years. It all started when a beloved Puppy Pokémon of hers passed away, and she channeled her grief into a song that caused her partner to revive as a ghost Pokémon (presumably [[[Greavard]] or [[Houndstone]]). From then on, she built an entire music career over the next forty years. The theme of death remained as a prominent part of her songs, which were said to be capable of raising the dead. At the very least, it was shown that her music could rouse and attract wild Greavard and Houndstone. She built up a huge following and became known as a rap legend, in addition to being skilled at rap battles. Nearly everything she said was in the form of a rap. Aside from her music career, Ryme also was skilled as a Ghost-type Pokémon trainer. A year and a half before the events of ''Scarlet''/''Violet', her older sister [[Tyme]] stepped away from her Gym Leader position to become a teacher at Paldea's [[Uva/Nanja Academy|Academy for Pokémon Trainers]], and Ryme became the Gym Leader of Montenevera in her place. The gym's arena doubled as a venue for her concerts, and her Gym Test consisted of having challengers act as the opening ac, warming up the audience for her concert through Pokémon battles. The Gym Test was coordinated by a trainer named MC Sledge. When it came to her own fights, Ryme fought double battles, and whoever managed to appeal to the audience during the battle could receive boosts from their cheers.

In ''Scarlet''/''Violet'', she was challenged by [[Florian/Juliana]], who managed to complete her Gym Test and defeated her in battle. She gave up her Gym Badge as well as TM114: Shadow Ball and even offered a VIP pass to her next show. A photo was then taken of Florian/Juliana watching Ryme perform on stage. After Florian/Juliana became champion, they were assigned by [[Geeta]] to run gym evaluations in her place by battling all of the Gym Leaders again. Once they came to meet Ryme, she was initially insulted that Geeta sent a rookie champion instead of seeing her herself, but she ultimately acknowledged that it wasn't the young trainer's fault and that they did want to meet the trainer again. She briefly mused about how fast time passes at her age, before dismissing the sentimentality to focus on the battle. After being defeated again, Ryme had newfound respect for Florian/Juliana. She apologized for calling them a rookie, explained that she just wanted to prove the power of Ghost types to Geeta and promised Florian/Juliana that from then one, she would always have their back, even against "vexin' trainers and hexin' specters".

It is also known that she had a Puppy Pokémon that died when she was a teenager which became a Ghost Pokémon. It is unclear if that Pokémon is the Houndstone she uses in battle.

=Trivia=

*Her Japanese name is Lime. As l and r are interchangeable in Japanese, this references both the fruit known as the lime and the word 'rhyme'. Her English name of Ryme is based on that, committing to the 'r' sound. Her name also rhymes with the name of her sister, Tyme.
*She offers a rap battle as an option for the player, but she dismisses it as a joke if the player chooses it.
*Ryme's deceased Pokémon was only described as being a Puppy Pokémon. There are five Pokémon with that title: [[Growlithe]], [[Lillipup]], [[Rockruff]], [[Yamper]] and [[Fidough]]. Fidough could be a distinct possibility due to being the Puppy Pokémon introduced in that generation, but Growlithe and Lillipup were also found within the Paldea region.

*While Gym Leaders can be fought in any order in ''Scarlet''/''Violet'', her team's levels place her as the sixth Gym Leader order of ascending strength, which would be the implied order in which the Gym Leaders should be taken on.
