Swampert is a very strong amphibious Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the third and final stage in Mudkip's evolutionary line.

Swampert evolves from Mudkip at Level 36. It is very strong, strong enough to easily drag a boulder weighing more than a ton. Swampert can easily batter foes by swinging their rock-hard arms. They also have powerful vision which allows them to see clearly even in murky water. Swampert can predict storms by sensing subtle differences in the sounds of waves and tidal winds using its fins. If it senses an approaching storm or tidal wave, Swampert will pile up boulders to protect itself as well as its nest.

They usually make their nests at beautiful beaches. Swampert can swim as fast as a jet ski and can even swim while towing a whole ship.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the seventy-ninth through eighty-eighth floors of Western Cave, and a non-playable Swampert was also featured as part of Team Hydro. In Pokémon Ranger, Swampert was found in the Lyra Forest. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Lake Afar. Swampert also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Oblivia Ruins and the Dark Temple.

*Swampert was first featured in an episode of the Pokémon anime's Hoenn series in which it guarded the Abandoned Ship ever since it was accidentally left behind as a Marshtomp by its trainer when the ship was being abandoned. The episode featured the Swampert being reunited with and rejoining its trainer, named Tommy. Towards the end of the Hoenn series, Morrison was shown to own a Swampert that he used in the Ever Grande Conference; it and Ash's Corphish wound up both knocking each other out during their battle. It was also one of Tucker's Pokémon during the Battle Frontier series. Swampert have primarily made minor appearances since (and a Swampert was shown as Brendan's Pokémon during his cameo appearance).  One episode of the Sinnoh series also ended with an angry Swampert attacking Ash's group due to their presence in its territory, but it was ultimately defeated.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Ruby's Marshtomp evolved into a Swampert after a battle against Courtney of Team Magma. It has remained a powerful member of his team and one of his main Pokémon since then.

Trivia
*Its name seems to be a combination of "swamp" with either "rampart" (which refers to a type of protection) or "expert".
