According to [[Caulder]], as a soldier the Beast was discharged from his unit for excessive violence and blood lust.  In the wake of the planet's devastation he was able to fulfill these desires and began to prey on other survivors, stealing from and killing both soldiers and civilians as he pleased.  His true name is almost given by Caulder as well, though it is ultimately avoided.

After escaping from a destroyed [[Rubinelle]] shelter, [[Will]] was set upon and outnumbered by the Beast, though [[Captain Brenner]] then came to the rescue and drove him away.  The Beast returned as the opposing CO for several missions after, making both Freehaven and New Wolfington the targets of his raids.  He was driven away every time by [[Brenner's Wolves]], who later took the fight to the Beast's own base and finished off his army.

Sometime after, the Beast was approached by Caulder and given a new army, as well as a mysterious potion that increased his primal attitude and shattered his ability to concentrate.  Seeking revenge, he stalked Brenner's Wolves as they made their way to a Rubinelle nuclear shelter.  At the shelter itself, he managed to escape detection and flank the battalion, presumably killing the civilians they were escorting.  Will was infuriated and vowed to kill the Beast; after the battle, Caulder discovered the Beast wounded and suffering from the potion he had taken and left him for dead.
