Whismur is a timid Pokémon that usually whispers or murmurs quietly enough that to barely be audible. However, when it senses danger, it will begin crying at an earsplitting volume that has been compared to a jet plane's volume. Hearing its own cries will also cause a Whismur to cry even harder. They also inhale through their ear canals, which allows them to continue breathing while crying continuously. Whismur stop when their ears are covered, and when they do finally stop crying, they will usually pass out due to being tired out.

It evolves into Loudred at Level 20.

*In the Pokémon anime, Whismur was first featured in one of the Pikachu shorts in which Team Rocket captured three of them to force them into performing for Giovanni, but Pikachu and company were able to save them. One episode of the Hoenn series also featured a trainer who owned a Whismur that notably befriended Jigglypuff due to its ability preventing it from falling asleep when Jigglypuff sang. However, the Whismur was later tired out from fighting Team Rocket and fell asleep, which angered the Jigglypuff which was under the misunderstanding that Whismur had fallen asleep from its song. Whimsur have also made several other minor appearances.

*In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Whismur were first featured in a chapter of the Ruby/Sapphire arc where a group of them interrupted Ruby and Courtney's battle at Rusturf Tunnel, with its Hyper Voice combining with that of Loudred and Exploudred to effectively blockade the tunnel.
