The '''Zol''' and '''Gel''' are the original type of gelatinous enemies found within the ''[[Portal: The Legend of Zelda|The Legend of Zelda]]'' series, although they have largely been replaced by the [[ChuChu]] as the series progressed. The Zol is the prime creature in most depictions and is composed of two smaller Gels.

=Information=

The Zol is a simplistic, blob-like enemy that usually attacks others by pouncing at them. Attacking a Zol will cause it to split into two Gels, although with strong enough weapons a Zol could be completely destroyed in one hit. The Zols from ''A Link to the Past'' and ''Four Swords Adventures'' additionally do not split into gels. Some games have color variations for Zols. In ''A Link to the Past'', Red Zols are the weakest while the green and orange ones are tougher. In ''Link's Awakening'', the ''Oracle'' games and ''Four Swords'', Green Zols are weak enough to be destroyed in one hit, and only Red Zols split into Gels when hit.

Gels are simply smaller versions of the Zols, which are weak and can be defeated with relative ease. Within ''Link's Awakening'', the ''Oracle'' games and ''Phantom Hourglass'', instead of damaging Link, Gels cling to Link and slow him down. Zols and Gels most commonly infest dungeons and caves, and in later games they are found outside in fields and wider varieties of environments.

Zols were primarily featured in classic games and games inspired by it, such as ''[[The Legend of Zelda]]'', ''[[The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past|A Link to the Past]]'', ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening|Link's Awakening]]'', ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons|Oracle of Seasons]]'', ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages|Oracle of Ages]]'', ''[[The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past & Four Swords|Four Swords]]'', ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures|Four Swords Adventures]]'' and ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass|Phantom Hourglass]]'', with Gels appearing in all but ''A Link to the Past'' and ''Four Swords Adventures''. 
A boss version known as [[Enemies in Link's Awakening|Slime Eye]] appeared in ''Link's Awakening'', with its Japanese name being Degu Zol. Slime Eye was a large blob in the shape of an eye that split into smaller versions of itself every time it was attacked until it was destroyed. [[Talus Cave]]'s boss in ''Four Swords'' is also known as a [[Enemies in Four Swords|Delu Zol]] in Japanese (having no English name) and resembles a giant slug with a gelatinous body.

=Trivia=

*The Zols/Gels have been largely replaced by ChuChus in the 3-D games and some of the later 2-D games. However, the version of the ChuChu originally shown in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask|Majora's Mask]]'' was somewhat Zol-like, and the version from ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword|Skyward Sword]]'' notably has the Zol trait of splitting into smaller forms when attacked.
*In ''Link's Awakening'', one of the final forms of the Nightmare is referred to as the Shadow Gel by English materials. However, the original Japanese name shows that it is actually supposed to be a [[Bot]].
