This is a list of all the characters who appear in StarTropics.
Main Characters[edit]
Mike Jones[edit]
see main article, Mike Jones
- Mike Jones is a 15 year old kid who hails from Seattle, Washington. One day he goes visiting C-Island to meet up with his uncle, Dr. Steven Jones. Instead he finds his uncle gone missing and goes on a quest to track him down.
[edit]
- Nav-Com is the robotic pilot assistant on the Sub-C. He is programmed with information to help pilot the sub, as well as secret instructions that he is supposed to use once Mike figures out the secret message written on his uncle's letter. His design appears to be based off of R.O.B..
Zoda[edit]
see main article, Zoda
- Zoda is the evil alien antagonist of the game who has come to Earth to collect the remaining Argonians. He is responsible for kidnapping Uncle Jones after the professor discovered the Argonian ship's landing site. He is responsible for the destruction of the Argonian world. However the mask and cape is merely a disguise for his true form.
Uncle Jones[edit]
see main article, Uncle Jones
- Dr. Steven Jones (or just Uncle Jones to Mike) is an archaeologist doing research on C-Island. While exploring one of the islands, he discovers the crash site of the Argonian spaceship. Though he tries to take the Cubes (containing the Argonian children), he is apprehended and imprisoned by Zoda's goons.
Supporting Cast[edit]
Chief Coralcola[edit]
- The chief of Coralcola village, he knows Dr Jones quite well (since his research lab is on the same island). He tells Mike what happened to his uncle and gives him a Yo-Yo to protect himself with. At the end, he agrees to watch over the Argonian children. His sister is the Island Shaman. He reappears in Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II where he is apparently an expert at Tetris.
Island Shaman[edit]
- The Island Shaman appears on C-Island to give Mike advice on his quest. Her purpose is to assist Mike when he loses hope in his quest, though mainly this means she just appears during the Game Over sequence. She is a firm believe in the power of the Southern Cross. Her brother is the chief of Coralcola.
Baboo[edit]
- A native of C-Island, he serves as Dr. Jones' assistant at his lab on the island. After Mike gets to the lab, Baboo tells Mike what little he knows and gives him access to the Sub-C. He later reappears after looking for Mike at Tunacola, but is swallowed by a whale - which later swallows the Sub-C. After Mike and Baboo reunite, they devise a plan to light a fire to get the whale to spit them out. After they escape, Baboo tells Mike that Dr. Jones wrote a secret message on the letter he sent to Mike, which contains special instructions.
Dolphin Child and Mother[edit]
- The Dolphin Mother appears after Mike has left C-Island and is out at sea. Her child has been kidnapped and she implores Mike to help. Of course, Mike agrees and finds the child deep in Octo's Lair. At the end, they rescue Mike from drowning and bring him to the C-Island beach.
Chief Miracola[edit]
- The chief of Miracola village, his people are unusually skilled at fixing Submarines, which comes in handy when Mike ends up stranded on his island. But before he agrees to fix Mike's sub, he sends him out on a quest to find an awakening scroll to break the spell on his sleeping daughter. He curiously looks very similar to Mario.
Banette[edit]
- Banette is the daughter of the Miracola's chief. She was cursed to enter into a deep sleep. The only thing that can break the curse is the awakening scroll from the mountain hermit. Of course, Mike is sent on the quest to collect the scroll and is able to save her afterwards.
Queen Shecola[edit]
- The queen of Shecola is rumored to be extremely beautiful, as she has never been seen outside of the female-only Shecola castle. Unfortunately for Mike, she has the information he needs to find the Mountain Hermit and the guards won't let him in. In order to speak with her, a fortune teller dresses Mike up as a girl and sends Mike in. Not only does Queen Shecola then tell Mike what he needs to know, but also gives him the Shooting Star, an upgrade to his Yo-Yo.
Chief Bellcola[edit]
- The chief of Bellcola helps Mike after receiving a message from C-Island about Mike's quest. The only way for Mike to go where he wants is through the straight on the island which is, unfortunately, blocked by a crashed pirate ship belonging the long-deceased Captain Bell. He sends Mike to go seek out Peter, the descendant of Captain Bell's pirate, to get the information to get through.
Peter[edit]
- Peter is a parrot that is the descendant of Captain Bell's parrot - Captain Bell, the owner of the ship that crashed. Peter won't give up the information without a gift, however. After Mike is able to find a fresh worm to give him, Peter tells him the secret 'code' to enter Bell's cave: Do Mi So Fa Do Mi.
Mica[edit]
- Mica is the daughter of King Hirocon and the oldest of the Argonian children. She appears only at the end after the three Cubes are reunited. She and the other children were sent in frozen time beacons twenty years ago with the message to find a new life on Earth and to live in peace with their people. She plays a larger role in the sequel, Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II.
