Gooper Blooper is a recurring boss from Super Mario Sunshine who attacks using inky goop.

Background

One of the creatures presumably created from goop. This blooper is much larger than others in his species, but seems unable to 'fly' like the others. Instead of this, he remains in one spot and uses his eight tentacles to attack his enemy. He has incredible regenerative properties, as he will quickly grow another set of tentacles if they are lost. He uses a black oily ink as well and usually has it covering his face. Oddly enough, he has a cork plugged in his mouth as well.

Mario faced Gooper Blooper in Super Mario Sunshine three times. The first time he faced him in Ricco Harbor in the residential area. Mario was able to pull off all his tentacles off and defeat him. Mario later faced him again at Ricco Harbor on the Helicopter Pad, but Mario was able to defeat him the same way. After that Gooper Blooper moved on to Noki Bay, but there Mario defeated him for a third and final time.

In Super Princess Peach, Gooper is the boss of Wavy Beach, the fifth world. He would attack with four of his tentacles (as well as spitting out bubbles of goop), but Princess Peach could stun each tentacle by hitting them with Perry after dodging it. After all four tentacles were stunned, Peach could then harm Gooper Blooper by attacking its mouth. After being hit enough times, it will begin falling asleep in mimicry of the Calm Vibe in an attempt to restore its health, but Peach could awaken it simply by using the Rage Vibe to burst its bubble.

Sports Games

  • Gooper Blooper appears in Mario Power Tennis. Rather than as a playable character, Gooper Blooper was the 'boss' in one of the challenge modes. In order to beat him, the opponent had to get 20, then 50, and then 100 volleys against him. He has a tennis court named after him.
  • In Mario Super Sluggers, Gooper Blooper appears as an obstacle in the Blooper Run minigame, in addition to appearing at the Daisy Cruiser stadium at night to tilt the ship.
  • In Mario Hoops 3 on 3 appears on the Pirate Ship course. Here he appears as a Kraken-like monster and will menace the passengers on the boat.

Trivia

  • In the beta version of Super Mario Sunshine, Gooper Blooper was depicted as having dark blue skin. This was changed in the final version, presumably to make his appearance closer to standard Bloopers.
