---|---|
Type | Power-Up |
Debut | Mario Party 4 |
The Mega Mushroom is a power-up introduced in later Mario games and acts as a larger version of the Super Mushroom.
Information[edit]
The Mega Mushroom is a large mushroom that dwarfs Super Mushrooms in size. When used, the Mega Mushroom instantly transforms the person into a gigantic size (around ten times their normal size). This form is only temporary, but given the person's size they are more or less invulnerable to most enemies and have no problem trampling enemies, pipes, blocks, and anything else that gets in the way.
Appearances[edit]
The Mega Mushroom first appeared in Mario Party 4 (where it was instead blue) and could be purchased from Toad for 5 coins. When used, the player is allowed to roll two dice for a turn and will take 10 coins from any other player he or she passes. There was also a Super Mega Mushroom that allowed the player to roll three dice, or a Mini-Mega Hammer that could randomly shrink or grow a player. The Mega Mushroom could also be found in Mario Pinball Land, allowing Mario to grow large again and reduce the risk of him falling off the board.
In New Super Mario Bros., it appeared as a traditional power-up, and because of the accompanying invincibility it acted like a mix of an enhanced Super Mushroom with the Starman item. Smashing through objects while under the effects of a Mega Mushroom will slowly fill a bar near the top of the screen. Every time the bar changed color, Mario will receive another 1-Up Mushroom when he returns to normal.
It also appears in Mario Kart Wii, where it makes the player gigantic so that they can crush other players while other items have no effect on it, with the only downside being reduced speed. It also appears in certain courses of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, where it only doubles characters in size.
Trivia[edit]
- If activated in an area that is too small in New Super Mario Bros., the Mega Mushroom will return to the inventory slot.
- An unfortunate side-effect of the Mega Mushroom; if the Mega Mushroom is used while Fire Mario or Shell Mario, Mario will revert back to Super Mario after the effects have worn off.
- The Mushroom in Super Mario 64 DS has the same effects as the Mega Mushroom in New Super Mario Bros.; a character will grow and be able to smash objects, and after smashing eight objects will receive a 1-Up Mushroom.
- In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Monsieur Broque sometimes uses a Mega Mushroom to become bigger in battle.
- A sticker of the Mega Mushroom appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
