Debut Super Mario Bros. 2

The head frog in charge of the invasion of Sub-Con.

Background

Super Mario Bros. 2

With his five top henchmen (Mouser, Triclyde, Clawgrip, Fryguy, and Robirdo) and his army of minions he was able to capture the Sub-Conians and trap them inside a vase. With the Dream Machine he was able to start spreading bad things into the dream world of Sub-Con. However his plans were foiled. Mario and his friends defeated his minions and invaded his own palace.

Wart was quite impervious to attack and was able to spew out giant bubbles. However a problem with the Dream Machine caused it to start spewing random vegetables, the one thing Wart could not stand. While spewing his bubbles, Mario and his friends threw well-timed veggies into the frog king's mouth. A few veggies later and Wart was too sick to fight anymore. During the victory celebration, Wart is carried off by the Sub-Conians to face whatever fate awaits him.

Link's Awakening

Mamu

In Link's Awakening, which was also set within a dream world, Wart made a cameo appearance under his Japanese name of Mamu. Mamu was shown to be a famous musical artist living within the Signpost Maze, probably to prevent his fans from disturbing him. There he practices his newest songs before releasing them. As a famous musician, he's rather vain. Despite that, he is considerate enough around his fans, though he does nothing for free. Being the frog that he is, he has a habit of mixing in a few ribbits and croaks with his dialogue.

Link was able to make it through the Signpost Maze and meet up with Mamu. After a brief introduction, Mamu offered to let Link hear his new song, but only if he paid the 300 rupees to hear it. After being paid, Mamu and his two backup frogs played the Frog Song of Soul, which Link dutifully learned to play on his ocarina. Link was later able to use the Frog Song of Soul to revive the Flying Rooster. In the meantime Mamu left his hole to go on tour. However, being a inhabitant of Koholint Island, he ceased to exist as soon as the Wind Fish awakened (but knowing Mamu/Wart, he may have found a new dream to inhabit...).
