Debut Donkey Kong 3

Stanley the Bugman was the protagonist of the third Donkey Kong arcade game and several Game & Watch games.

Background[edit]

Nothing has been disclosed regarding Stanley's background. In all three of his appearances he wielded a can of bug-spray as his weapon. His original appearance may have been in Green House, where he was simply known as the Fumigator. In this game, he defended several plants from insects with his spray gun. Stanley later defended a greenhouse against an army of insects led by Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong 3. Stanley was armed only with a spray-gun, which he he used to take out the bugs and stun Donkey Kong in the various areas of his greenhouse. He made one more appearance, competing with Donkey Kong in the Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong 3.

Since then, his only appearances have been in games that remake or remix those classic games. Green House and the Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong 3 were included in Game & Watch Gallery 3 and 4 respectively, but with Mario replacing Stanley in the modern versions of the games. Portions of the arcade game Donkey Kong 3 have also been used for microgames in several WarioWare games and for bonus games in NES Remix, with Stanley being playable in all instances. In the WarioWare: Touched! minigame, Stanley blew the Super Spray from his mouth instead of his spray-gun, to reflect the microgame being played by blowing into the DS's microphone.

Video Games[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • Stanley appeared in an episode of the Donkey Kong segment of the Saturday Supercade cartoon. In this appearance, he worked at a greenhouse and took care of a carnivorous plant named Herman by spraying bugs, but a thief stole the plant and tricked Stanley into thinking that Donkey Kong was the culprit. This sparked a conflict with between Stanley and Donkey Kong, which led to Stanley working with Mario and Pauline. After Pauline convinced Stanley of the truth, they all worked together to catch the true thief.

Trivia[edit]

  • He is commonly speculated to be related to Mario and Luigi, mostly due to the similar overalls.
