Ricky is a boxing kangaroo who acts as one of Link's three semi-playable animal partners in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.

Background

Ricky was a kangaroo who was found in both Holodrum and Labrynna. He wore boxing gloves and was a powerful fighter. His special move was a Tornado Punch, where he wound up his fist and unleashed a miniature tornado. He was also known for his jumping ability, which he could use to scale large walls and leap over small holes.

In both of his appearances, Ricky had lost his boxing gloves when Link first met him. After his boxing gloves were returned to him, he thanked Link by giving him a ride in his pouch through the nearby area. In Oracle of Seasons, Ricky was found near Spool Swamp and had lost his gloves in a fight to Blaino. In Oracle of Ages, he was found in the part of the Forest of Time where Tingle was found, and his boxing gloves were found buried at Lynna City's beach.

Depending on when/how Link obtains the Strange Flute within the game, one of the three animal companions could later become Link's main animal companion. In Oracle of Seasons, Ricky would give Link his flute if he had not obtained a flute through any other means by the time he returned his boxing gloves. In Oracle of Ages, the Strange Flute would be associated with Ricky if it was won in the Shooting Gallery minigame. In that instance, Ricky would later be found lost in the Fairies' Woods. When associated with Ricky, the Strange Flute would become known as Ricky's Flute, and Link could use it to summon him. Some of the terrain in some areas of the game would change specifically to be passed with Ricky's abilities.

Other Appearances

Video Games

  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Ricky appeared as a Novice-rank Support Spirit with the effect of boosting the power of fist attacks. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Ricky's Spirit would possess Little Mac and focus on jumping around.

Trivia

  • Ricky is referred to as male by most sources, despite the fact that only female kangaroos have pouches in real life.
