Deoxys is mutated extraterrestrial legendary Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It has no evolutionary line, but it has four different forms. Deoxys can be obtained primarily through Nintendo events.

Information

Deoxys is the result of a space virus that fell to earth on a meteor and was mutated into a Pokémon after being exposed to a laser beam. It is a highly intelligent Pokémon that wields potent psychokinetic powers. Deoxys has a crystalline organ on its chest which appears to be its brain and is capable of firing lasers. It appears where auroras are seen and it appears to cause auroras whenever it changes forms. Deoxys has several different forms which it switches between to fool others, although within the games its form shifting involves traveling to other regions or being exposed to a meteor.

Each form specializes in a particular attribute, which is inherent in its name. It's Attack Form has more powerful attacks. The Defense Form alters its cellular structure to absorb attacks. Deoxys's third and final form is its Speed Form, which is configured for superior agility and speed.

Deoxys can only be obtained on Birth Island in Pokémon: FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald Versions, and this island can only be reached by using the event item AuroraTicket.

Deoxys originally has only its Normal Form within Ruby/Sapphire, and this is also the only form it will use in Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Deoxys will become Attack Form in FireRed, Defense Form in LeafGreen and Speed Form in Emerald. The fourth generation introduces means for Deoxys to change forms at will, in the form of sets of meteorites found in all versions. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, the meteorites were found at Veilstone City, while in HeartGold and SoulSilver, there were meteorites at Route 3.

Other Games

Within games where Deoxys appears in multiple forms, its form will change randomly at various points. In Pokémon Trozei!, Deoxys could be obtained through Random Agent Cards and at Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, the Meteor Cave area contained Deoxys with random forms on each floor which had to be defeated to progress. Only the twentieth and last floor had a Deoxys in normal form which could be recruited. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Deoxys is found on the seventeenth floor of Shimmer Hill if the player has a Mystery Part or Secret Slab. In Pokémon Ranger, Deoxys was found at Krokka Tunnel during the first Range Net Mission. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it was the boss of the Odd Temple in a special Ranger Net mission, and after being captured it could be transferred to any of the fourth generation color versions. Deoxys also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Flower Zone.

• In the Super Smash Bros. series, Deoxys (in its Attack Forme) has appeared in each game starting with Super Smash Bros. Brawl as one of the Pokémon that could be summoned at random from the Poké Ball item. It attacks by flying to the top of the screen and firing a powerful Hyper Beam downwards from its chest for several moments. Its beam is capable of causing a one-hit KO in its first appearance. Deoxys has also been represented by a trophy and sticker in Brawl, a trophy in the 3DS/Wii U game and a Legend-rank Primary Spirit (which also raises PSI attack power) in Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Spirit of Deoxys would possess Mewtwo and have enhanced attack power. The Poké Ball version of Deoxys would also be summoned during the battle.

Other Media

• In the Pokémon anime, the seventh movie featured a pair of Deoxys (one with a purple crystal and the other with a green one). One Deoxys had gotten into a fight with Rayqauza and was initially destroyed. It spent the next four years regenerating while in the care of a scientist who befriended the second Deoxys. The movie involved the reunion of the two Deoxys and the efforts of Ash's friends to help them fight off Rayquaza when it resurfaced. The movie only used the initial three forms (as Emerald had not yet been released), and the Speed Form was later introduced in one episode of the Battle Frontier series where the Pokémon Ranger Solana had to capture a newly-crashed Deoxys to keep it from causing disturbances while it felt weak. A Deoxys was also featured in an episode of the Sinnoh series where it used all of its forms and was shown to recharge at an island using the meteorites there.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Deoxys was one of the primary Pokémon featured in the FireRed/LeafGreen arc. Deoxys was the result of experiments that Team Rocket conducted on a virus stolen from Mossdeep Space Center, and it formed into two separate Deoxys entities. The second entity was able to escaped and accidentally absorbed a sample of Red's blood, so it believed that it was related to him. Team Rocket send the first entity after Red and his friends (capturing Green and Professor Oak) to lure the second entity out, and the "trashed" the first entity once they no longer needed it. Giovanni captured the remaining Deoxys after it was weakened and used a climate machine to simulate Hoenn's climate so that it could change forms independently. The machine was later destroyed, which allowed Red to defeat Deoxys with Mewtwo. Deoxys helped the protagonists afterwards, but they were all turned into stone by Sird when trying to protect it. Deoxys was last seen flying to another region where it can change forms at will and help others (which possibly referred to Sinnoh).

Trivia

• Deoxys's name is derived from deoxyribonucleic acid, also known as DNA, due to its connection to genetics. Deoxys's design also resembles a strand of DNA.
