In 1998, Intelligent Systems released Super Famicom Wars, an enhanced version of the original Famicom Wars that was released over the Super Famicom's Nintendo Power service. It was also the first installment to add more factions in the form of Green Earth and Yellow Comet.

Each game kept the same units and COs and only added to the rosters with new characters and units, rather than replace and reinvent with every single game. The series ended up as a trilogy that ended with Dual Strike.
