Tormod is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. He was an impetuous youth and angered quickly, especially when it came to taking care of the laguz. At the same time he sought ways to improve his magical prowess.
Background
As an infant, Tormod was orphaned, but he was found and taken in by the laguz Muarim, who raised him as his own child. When he was only a child, he became the leader of the laguz liberation force based in the Grann Desert of Begnion. Together he and Muarim dreamed of a world in which beorcs and laguz lived together peacefully, but those efforts were hampered by Begnion nobles who still kept laguz slaves against the law.Tormod learned magic from an old man in the desert, whom bore a mark signifying he was either a Spirit Charmer or one of The Branded (the second being likely due to the colony of Branded located in the desert).
In "Chapter 15: The Feral Frontier" of Path of Radiance, Ike and the Greil Mercenaries defeated Muarim in battle under the orders of Begnion's apostle Sanaki, whom had claimed Muarim was leading a group of bandits. After the battle, Tormod revealed himself in order to protect Muarim and told Ike the truth about their laguz liberation force. Afterwards, Ike decided to have Muarim and Tormod speak before the apostle about the slavery problem. They found Sanaki knew more than they expected to her to, and wanted the mercenaries to act on her behalf in order to protect the Begnion government's image. Tormod and Muarim joined up with Ike's group in the coming battles to shut down the laguz slaveholders.
Afterwards, they remained in Ike's group in the battles to reclaim Crimea as part of the Crimea Liberation Army, simply because they wanted to help Ike. He also received instruction in magic from Calill. When the war ended, Tormod and Muarim returned to the Grann Desert in order to meet with their friends there and begin telling stories about the adventure.
Support Conversation Summaries
Tormod is capable of having Support conversations with four other characters.
- Calill- In the first conversation, Tormod pesters Calill to teach him more magic. Calill is annoyed with him, but she reluctantly watches him show off his magic. In the second conversation, Calill continues to refuse to teach Tormod more magic because of how brash and impatient he is. She snaps and tells him that if he keeps simply learning new magic spells without taking time to master them, he could accidentally maim or kill himself or a friend with one of his spells. This convinces him to study the basics so he does not become a burden to his friends. In the third conversation, Tormod shows off his magic to Calill, who is impressed and says she has nothing left to teach him. She says that she is now inspired to continue studying magic and tells him that how much further he progresses from here depends on his own essence. She then explains the concept of Spirit Charming to Tormod, and she convinces him not to go down that path to the great risk involved. Tormod agrees and decides to become the best average magic user.
- Devdan- Devdan and Tormod are assigned to take care of the weapons, and Devdan arrives abruptly, startling Tormod. Tormod complains about having to do chores but Devdan says it will be useful to know about a variety of weapons on the battlefield. In the next conversation, Devdan comes to Tormod when he is wounded and waiting for a healer, but Devdan says he cannot always depend on others and should learn how to take care of himself. Devdan then decides to demonstrate how. In the final conversation, Tormod is depressed, thinking his powers are useless, and he is not even startled by Devdan's sudden arrival. Devdan manages to cheer Tormod up by reminding him of how he felt when first wielding magic and told him to focus on the attitude of becoming stronger and protecting others. Devdan tells Tormod that in exchange he gives Devdan hope that there's always something worth fighting for.
- Reyson- Tormod approaches Reyson and asks a favor of him involving his friends in the Grann Desert. Reyson notes having heard of the beorc leading the laguz emancipation army but expected Tormod to look different. Tormod decides to ask his favor later. In the next conversation, he asks Reyson to use the revival galdr to transform all of the Grann Desert's sand into soil so the laguz can live more easily there, but Reyson refuses and walks away. In the final conversation, Reyson explains to Tormod that the revival of Serenes Forest only happened due to certain circumstances, and he could not do the same for the desert even with Leanne's help. Tormod had hoped that the laguz could continue living in the desert after it was transformed so they would not have to face trouble from living alongside Begnion's beorcs. Reyson invites them to come to Serenes Forest, but Tormod decides to turn it down after hearing the Serenes customs which he knew the other laguz would not agree with, such as hunting and eating meat being forbidden.
- Sothe- In the first conversation, Tormod attempts to become friendly with Sothe by complimenting his maneuvers on the battlefield and mentioning they are around the same age, but Sothe remains cold to him. In the second conversation, Tormod directly suggests they become friends. Sothe refuses, but Tormod says he'll treat him like a friend regardless. In the third conversation, Sothe asks Tormod why he insists on becoming friends. Tormod says it is because Muarim was unhappy that Tormod did not have any beorc friends (if Muarim was killed in battle, Tormod says it is to honor his memory). After hearing this, Sothe decides to befriend him so he does not cause grief for his father figure, saying he has someone who is like a parent to him. Tormod is excited and promises to be best friends forever since they have much in common, but Sothe reminds Tormod that thieves are loners and he doesn't need a partner to make noise and mess up his thefts.
Tormod also has an in-built Support bonus with Muarim which increases his chances of delivering a critical hit when Muarim is nearby (and vice-versa).
