The Bokoblin is a recurring enemy from the The Legend of Zelda series that seems to be a smaller relative of Moblins and often acts as a basic footsolider enemy. These shorter creatures are also pig-snouted, but lack hoofed legs like pig-moblins. Their size allows for agility, but they are not nearly as strong as their larger counterparts.

The Wind Waker

During The Wind Waker, Bokoblins made up most of Ganondorf's pirate forces. They were scattered around the Great Sea in different locations, particularly on rafts and Pirate Outposts. They also operate thed searchlights at Forsaken Fortress.

They wielded a variety of weapons in battle, such as machetes and Boko Sticks, and they could even make makeshift weapons out of telescopes that they used when on lookout. Bokoblins were also often known to hide within pots and other objects in attempts to ambush their enemies. However, Bokoblins on guard duty also tended to be sluggish, and they fell asleep on the job often. Green Bokoblins also had shields.

Twilight Princess

Bokoblins appeared early in the game. Blue Bokoblins wielded wooden clubs and were defeated with ease, but Red Bokoblins wielded swords and took more hits to defeat. They were mostly found patrolling the Faron Forest and Hyrule Field. Bokoblins also appeared in large numbers outside Hyrule Castle when it was under Ganondorf's rule.

Bokoblins appeared as the most common enemy making up most of Ghirahim and Demise's hordes of monster forces, and they were around since ancient times. They appeared in all regions with variations that were each at least slightly different in attire, but they were all tied together by their love for "outlandish underpants", which Fi always makes sure to point out in her descriptions. Red Bokoblins were the most basic enemies, while Green Bokoblins appeared in caves and dungeons. The Blue Bokoblins were the most powerful out of them. There were further divisions among the Bokoblins due to their weaponry, with some wielding blades while others were archers. Some Red Bokoblins acted as leaders for their groups and would call for Bokoblins by blowing into a Monster Horn, which Link could swipe with the whip. Spoils sometimes dropped by Bokoblins included the Ornamental Skull and Golden Skull.

In addition to the normal variations based on skin color and weaponry, there were also two unique versions. Bokokblins found in past areas through usage of Timeshift Stones wore armor and were armed with electric swords which made them harder to attack. There was also a ReDead-based zombie-like version called the Cursed Bokoblin. These enemies were said to reanimate solely through hatred for the world and their love of outlandish underpants. No matter how many times they were defeated, Cursed Bokoblins would always get back up and could only be completely destroyed by hitting one with a fatal blow while it was down. They were also stunned by the Sacred Shield. The Cursed Bokoblins were primarily found in the Ancient Cistern's basement and a room of the Sky Keep.

Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, they are the most common enemy found throughout the game. Groups of Bokoblins have various encampments and makeshift bases throughout Hyrule, sometimes working with other monsters such as Lizalfos. They attempt to hunt animals such as boars, and in some cases they can be found riding on backs of horses. They are armed with a variety of melee weapons, and as in Twilight Princess, a Bokoblin on lookout will alert its allies of an enemy's presence by blowing into a horn.

Within this game, Red Bokoblins were the most basic variety to appear, being weaker and less intelligent than all of the other types. The next strongest are Blue Bokoblins, which are clever enough to know to kick Bombs away from them, and then Black Bokoblins are stronger than them. This game also introduces Silver Bokoblins, which appear much less commonly, and they are known for being extremely resilient and powerful compared to normal Bokoblins. This is because they are empowered by Ganon's magic. There is an even stronger version called the Golden Bokoblin that only appears in Master Mode. That version is completely golden, and it is said that their origin is that they are Silver Bokoblins who were transformed by lightning strikes, which also makes them impervious to electricity.

In this game, there are also skeletal versions of Bokoblins that appear at knight, known as Stalkoblins.

Video Games

• In Hyrule Warriors, Bokoblins commonly appear as enemy footsoldiers, with their appearance based on their design from Skyward Sword.
• In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Bokoblin appears as a Novice-rank Primary Spirit (using art from Breath of the Wild) that can also enhance the power of battering items. When fought in a Spirit battle, the Bokoblin's Spirit would possess a group of smaller versions of King K. Rool, one of which started the battle wielding an Ore Club.
• In Cadence of Hyrule, Bokoblins appeared as common enemies. They were armed with clubs and came in several colored varieties that denoted their level of strength.

Trivia

• The end of their name is derived from the common Zelda enemy 'Moblin', which gets its name from 'goblin'. 'Boko' likely refers to Boko Sticks, a common weapon used by Bokoblins; in reality their name is possibly derived from "bokoboko", a Japanese onomatopoeia for burbling noises, or possibly "bokoru", which is Japanese slang for "beating the hell" out of someone.
• Oddly enough, Bokoblins carry Joy Pendants in The Wind Waker.
