Deathborn is a pilot in the F-Zero series and the true mastermind behind Black Shadow

Background[edit]

One of the most mysterious pilots of all, Deathborn makes even the Black Shadow shudder in fear. In his past he has 'died' three times, but has been revived three times by trading in his organic parts in for mechanical parts to the point he is no more than a cyborg with a human brain. The benefactors for this transformation is believed to have been the Creators, whose role and purpose for Deathborn is unknown.

Since the Horrific Grand Finale, several F-Zero pilots have turned up missing and never found. In all these incidents, Deathborn was the number one suspect. Because of his cybernetic augmentations, he can drift freely into space without the aid of a vessel. He often banishes his enemies into the emptiness of space to drift for all eternity. His motive is to take over the galaxy, a plan which ultimately requires winning the Grand Prix. He himself never raced in the official races, but only in the underground races. He employed Black Shadow to win the Grand Prix, using whatever means are necessary.

In 2671, he had Black Shadow try and eliminate other potential challengers in the upcoming Grand Prix. His plans were thwarted by Captain Falcon, forcing Black Shadow to race Falcon himself. After Captain Falcon was awarded the GP Champion's Belt, Deathborn challenged Falcon to a race in the underground circuit. Before the race he fused the belt Falcon had won with his own belt he had obtained from the underground championship. He then took off in his machine since he now had access to the power to rule the universe. Captain Falcon pursued him and was able to overtake him. In the aftermath Deathborn fell into a lake of lava. It is unknown whether or not he survived.
