Carvanha is a dangerous piranha-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. Its evolved form is Sharpedo.

Information

Carvanha usually live in massive rivers that run through jungles, and they viciously attack any intruders of their territory in swarms. Carvanha is known for its strongly developed jaw and its sharply pointed fangs, which are strong enough to tear the hull of a ship. Swarms of Carvanha have been known to attack and swarm ships. Despite Carvanha's savage nature, it will usually become timid and flee once it is alone.

It evolves into Sharpedo at Level 30.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Carvanha could be commonly found by fishing with the Good or Super Rod at Routes 118 and 119. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could be fished with the Super Rod at the Great Marsh. Carvanha could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Warm Beach course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold and SoulSilver. In Black and White, they could be commonly fished at Village Bridge.

Other Games

A Shadow Carvanha could be snagged from Cipher Peon Cabol at Cipher Key Lab in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and after being purified it could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was found at the Ocean. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 11, Huge Storage 4, Endless Level 11 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the thirty-fifth through thirty-ninth floors of Stormy Sea, the thirtieth through thirty-ninth floors of Silver Trench and Far-off Sea and the thirtieth floor of Fantasy Strait. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Safra Sea.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, it could be recruited at Surrounding Sea. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Coral Sea. Carvanha also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Beach Zone.

• In the Pokémon anime, Carnvanha were featured in an episode of the Hoenn series where Ash had to deal with a swarm of them while crossing a river to help another Pokémon. They have also made minor appearances in other episodes, including as regular Pokémon of Team Aqua members.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Carvanha was shown as one of Amber's Pokémon during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

• Its name is a combination of "carnivore" and "piranha".
