Sableye is a sinister crystal-eating Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games.
Information[edit]
Sableye live quiet lives within dark caves. They use their claws to dig branching holes through the ground to find raw gems, which they eat. Substances in the eaten rocks crystallize and rise to the Pokémon's body surface. This diet causes Sableye's eyes to resemble gemstones. It is rarely seen by others due to its reclusive nature, but Sableye is feared by people in general due to the belief that it steals people's souls when its eyes glow sinisterly in the darkness.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Sableye was found somewhat commonly at Granite Cave, the Cave of Origin, Sky Pillar and Victory Road.
In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could uncommonly appear at Iron Island only when a Sapphire cartridge was present in the GBA slot. In SoulSilver, they could appear at Route 9 in swarms. It could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Rally course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver. It could also be uncommonly in Black and White at Challenger's Cave.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Sableye could be snagged from Navigator Abson at Citadark Isle, and after being purified it could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was found in the Cave at the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Huge Storage 3, Endless Level 3, Forever Level 3 and Mr. Who's Den. It could be recruited at Darknight Relic in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams and at Spacial Rift in Explorers of Time and Darkness. Six non-playable Sableye also appeared in Explorers as servants of the antagonistic Dusknoir.
In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Chroma Ruins and Hippowdon Temple. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Daybreak Ruins and the Dark Temple. Sableye also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Haunted Zone.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, one episode of the Hoenn series featured a Sableye that played tricks on Ash's group, but it ultimately helped them to stop Team Rocket. Cassidy of Team Rocket has also used her own Sableye.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Sableye made only minor appearances until the Diamond/Pearl arc, where it was featured as one of Jupiter's Pokémon. It has shadow-stretching abilities which made it quite capable in battle.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "sable" (which is the name of an Old World weasel and is also used to represent "black" or "darkness") and "eye" (due to its prominent gem-like eyes), and the name may also be intended as a play on the phrase "able-eyed" which described one with functioning eyes.
- It is the first Ghost/Dark Pokémon to be introduced and because of this, the first Pokémon to not have a type weakness as well. It would later be joined by Spiritomb.
