The Fire Arrow is a special type of elemental arrow that has appeared in several The Legend of Zelda games. It is one of three elemental arrows, along with the Ice and Light Arrows.

Information[edit]

The Fire Arrow is the result of charging a normal arrow with the elemental power of fire. It is fired from a bow and bursts into flames upon hitting a target. It is stronger than a normal arrow, and its fire can also light torches, melt ice or set certain things on fire from a distance. This usually consumes an amount of magic power in most appearances. Depending on the game, Link can either toggle between it and other effects for his normal arrows, or Fire Arrows may instead be available as a sepeate stock of arrows.

Appearances[edit]

In Ocarina of Time, the Fire Arrow could be obtained at Lake Hylia by shooting an arrow at the sun as it rose in the morning when the lake was full. The lake was only naturally filled after completing the Water Temple, but Link could fill it earlier with the Song of Storms after collecting the Longshot. The Fire and Ice Arrows were initially bonus items that were unnecessary for completing the game, but this changed in later games.

In Majora's Mask, it was found at Snowhead Temple. In The Wind Waker, the Fairy Queen would give Link's arrows the powers of both fire and ice when Link visited her at the Mother & Child Isles after saving Aryll from the Forsaken Fortress. The Fire Arrows were needed to access the Ice Ring Isles by temporarily warming the area enough for Link to safely navigate it.

In Breath of the Wild, Fire Arrows were used by enemies as well as Link. Like most items in this game, they could be obtained through various means throughout the game's expansive setting with no specific way to first gain them. Fire Arrows could be found in treasure chests, purchased from shops or dropped by some defeated enemies.

Trivia[edit]

  • In many games, it is also possible to imitate a Fire Arrow's effect through the crude method of setting an arrow on fire to make a flaming arrow. In Majora's Mask, this is achieved by firing an arrow through a torch. Flaming arrows have also been used by Bulblins in Twilight Princess.
