The Chargin' Chuck is a sports-themed variety of Koopa that has acted as a recurring enemy in the Super Mario series.
Information[edit]
Chargin' Chucks are stout and burly Koopas who always wear football helmets and are tougher to defeat than other enemies. During their original appearance in Super Mario World, there were varieties with different types of attack patterns. The most common type is the one that rushes at enemies on sight, while trying to tackle them. Others attack by throwing baseballs, kicking footballs, digging up rocks or leaping around in place while clapping their hands. Some Chargin' Chucks split into three when approaches, and others use whistles to summon other enemies.
Because of the helmets they wear, it usually takes multiple jumps to defeat them, but they could be beaten more easily by power-ups such as the Fire Flower.
Appearances[edit]
The Chargin' Chucks were initially featured in Super Mario World. This is where most varieties of Chargin' Chucks appeared, and they were found semi-commonly throughout the game. A sole Chargin' Chuck later appeared in Yoshi's Safari as the boss of Float Castle II. Unlike other Chucks, this one attacked by throwing bombs instead of any type of balls. Chargin' Chucks later made a guest appearance as enemies in "Vegetable Volley", an e-Reader level of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3'.
After a lengthy absence, Chargin' Chucks started making return appearances in the 3-D Mario games, starting with Super Mario 3D World. Their behavior was similar to their most common behavior from the previous games. Jumping on one once would knock off their helmet and cause them to move more quickly, and hitting them again would defeat them, although they would also try to place their helmets back on. They similarly appeared in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Super Mario Odyssey. In the latter game, where they were found only at the Moon Kingdom. Mario could use Cappy to capture a Chargin' Chuck after its helmet had been removed, essentially making the Chargin' Chuck temporarily playable. When possessing a Chuck, Mario could use its dash attack to break through obstacles.

- In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Chargin' Chuck appeared as a Novice-rank Primary Spirit. When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Chuck's Spirit would possess a team of four Wario duplicates who fought solely with dash attacks, in imitation of the Chargin' Chuck's combat style.
Other Media[edit]
- In the Super Mario World cartoon, they appeared as King Koopa's main minions. In this version, they were known merely as Koopa Football Players.
- Chargin' Chucks were featured in a chapter of Super Mario-Kun, where they attempted to attack Mario, Luigi and Yoshi while they were trapped in balloon form. Mario was ultimately able to defeat them after gaining a Starman.
- In Super Mario Adventures, multiple Chucks appeared among Bowser's minions.

- Their Japanese name is "buru", which simply means "bull", in reference to the way they rush forward.
