The planet Tallon IV is a planet in the Tallon system that was colonized by the Chozo. It serves as the setting of Metroid Prime as a pristine planet spoiled by the spreading Phazon.

History[edit]

It used to be an otherwise unspectacular planet that teemed with life and radiated with natural beauty. The planet went undisturbed for years until it became inhabited by the Chozo. This planet was to be their final home, one where they could become one with nature. As such, they brought little technology to the planet, choosing to carve their new home around the trees and other life, rather than destroying what was already there. Their purpose was merely to acquire a greater sense of wisdom. However, this was all disrupted by the arrival of a meteor impact.

For the Chozo, it was but a small curiosity. However, from the meteor emerged Phazon and the Metroid Prime, what they came to call the Great Poison and the Worm. The Phazon continued to spread, corrupting the life around it and killing the planet. The Chozo attempted to contain this plague by building the Artifact Temple and the Cipher with which to contain this evil. Still the Phazon spread and the Chozo, who were in the midst of ascending to a spiritual plane, were able to do little to stop it.

Things worsened with the arrival of the Space Pirates. Having lost their operations on Zebes, Tallon IV became their next base of operation. They found the Phazon useful as well as Metroid Prime, studying both with great interest. In order to gain further insight, they sought to break the Cipher containing Metroid Prime inside the Impact Crater. They quickly covered began building their own base of operations, introducing technology to the planet for the first time.

Samus Aran soon arrived, having tracked the Space Pirates down from Zebes. She soon discovered the plight of the planet and began working towards removing Metroid Prime and the Phazon. Eventually she destroyed Metroid Prime, destroying the source of the Phazon completely. The planet itself was saved, although it would likely take years for the after effects of the Phazon to clear up.

Geography[edit]

Tallon IV supports a M-class atmosphere that can sustain human life. The surface is thick with vegetation and other life forms. Due to Phazon exposure, many lifeforms have become hostile and increased in size. Key regions include the Phendrana Drifts, Magmoor Caverns, the Phazon Mines, and the Impact Crater.
