Team Star Fox is a mercenary unit founded by James McCloud, a skilled pilot who worked with Peppy Hare and Pigma Dengar. Following James's death, the team passed on to his son Fox McCloud who is the current leader of the team.

Background

The team was founded by James McCloud at an unspecified time. He flew alongside Peppy and Pigma, usually with the Cornerian Defense Force as their primary benefactor. James McCloud even took out an 80-year loan to purchase the Great Fox. The original team's last mission was infiltrating Planet Venom to find information on Andross. They were double crossed by wing mate Pigma and only Peppy escaped alive.

When Peppy brought the news to James's son, Fox, the youth decided to take over the team. Peppy remained on the team, but was joined by the mechanic wiz Slippy Toad and hotshot pilot Falco Lombardi. Both were around Fox's age in their late teens, making Peppy the voice of experience for the team. They were able to put the Great Fox to use in assisting their mission to thwart Andross's invasion of the Cornerian System.

They encountered a rival in the form of Star Wolf, led by Wolf O'Donnell and containing Pigma in their ranks. The teams were closely matched, but Star Fox showed their superiority in each engagement. After liberating various planets in the Lylat System, they finally reached Venom and Fox was able to take out Andross himself. They escaped the planet and returned to Corneria to receive the reward for a job well done.

Adventures

Although they made a name for Star Fox with their efforts, the system reached an era of peace that no longer required their services. Falco left the team to pursue his own ends while Slippy worked closely with his father, Beltino Toad on Weapons R&D, though he stayed on board the Great Fox. The ship itself fell into disrepair from eight years of negligence (thanks to no funds to keep it maintained). Eventually General Pepper gave the team a mission on planet Sauria, though it was somewhat unsuited for their talents.

Fox McCloud was sent to the planet to settle a planetary dispute between the ruling Dinosaur Tribes and the Sharp Claw usurpers led by General Scales. The planet itself was actually ripped to shreds by magic from the planet. Thanks to the help of a dinosaur prince, Tricky, Fox was able to defeat the Sharp Claws and rescue a mysterious girl, Krystal, who had been captured while trying to help the planet. The root of the trouble turned out to be Andross's spirit who had found power in the planet's magical energy. He was defeated by Fox and the surprise assistance from Falco.

The team was rewarded by General Pepper for their efforts. Tricky was made an honorary member of the team. The Great Fox was refitted both internally and externally with the funds. They also received a new member with Krystal, who took over Peppy's pilot position. Peppy himself remained on the Great Fox to work with ROB in coordinating attacks.

Assault

One year later, the reunited team faced a new threat from outside the system. The Aparoid invasion. The Star Fox team fought a long battle against the Aparoids, working to drive them from the various planets - including Sauria, allowing a short reunion with a now older Tricky. They eventually had to travel to Corneria where - with assistance from Star Wolf - they had to fight General Pepper's personal ship that had been taken over by Aparoids. The general's life was saved by Peppy who used his own Arwing to cushion Pepper's crash.

In the final battle on the Aparoid Homeworld, Star Fox had to sacrifice the Great Fox (which had been overrun by Aparoids) in order to open access into the planet where the Aparoid Queen was waiting. While the team went in to defeat the queen, Peppy and ROB64 detached the command bridge from the ship to escape death. Afterwards they rendezvoused with the team and returned to Corneria.

Command

The team proceeded to drift apart apart once again. Fearing for her safety, Fox forced Krystal out of the team. Humiliated by his over-protectiveness, she left the team and joined the Cornerian Defense Force. Peppy was named the General of the Cornerian Defense Force due to Pepper's illness. Slippy moved to Aquas to spend time with his new girlfriend Amanda, while Falco again left the team to go solo. Fox had managed to purchase a new Great Fox, though it lacked the maneuverability and strength of the previous one. He and ROB64 were the only members left on the team.

During the Anglar invasion, Fox was too stubborn to gather the others and ended alone against the enemy. He was eventually able to reunite the rest of the team and together they traveled to Venom and destroyed the Anglar Emperor, though the fate of the team is unknown.

Possible Fates

• In Ending 1, Star Fox is reunited and gains a new member when Slippy's fiancée decides to join the team.
• In Ending 2, Fox retires to live a life of peace with Krystal. Eventually they have a son, Marcus, who founds a third generation of Star Fox with Slippy's son, Peppy's granddaughter, and a now older Falco Lombardi.
• In Ending 3, the team is reunited but Krystal ends up leaving the team again to be with Star Wolf again.
• In Ending 4, Krystal joins Star Wolf in defeating the Anglars but is considered a traitor for abandoning Star Fox.
• In Ending 5, Krystal works with the other female pilots to defend Corneria. Afterwards they reunite with the successful Star Fox team and celebrate.
• In Ending 6, Fox fights the final battle with Dash Bowman and Falco. During the battle they are joined by the ghost of James McCloud, but only Fox realizes he's there.
• In Ending 7, Slippy leaves the team and settles on Aquas with Amanda.
• In Ending 8, Falco is ostracized from the team and starts up Star Falco with Katt Monroe and Dash Bowman.
• In Ending 9, both Fox and Falco miss out on defeating the Anglars as Star Wolf takes all the glory. The two leave behind the mercenary life and become pilots in G-Zero (a parody of F-Zero).

Trivia

• In Star Fox 2, the team contained two new playable members, named Miyu and Fey.
