Baltoy is an ancient spinning Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. Its evolved form is Claydol.

Information

Baltoy is a rare Pokémon that was discovered in ancient ruins. Primitive wall paintings have shown that they lived among ancient people in a once-bustling city. Baltoy are known to spin while moving on one foot. It even sleeps while cleverly balancing itself on one foot. Some Baltoy have also been shown to spin on their heads. Once they spot others of their kind, Baltoy will congregate with them and began crying noisily in unison.

Baltoy evolves into Claydol at Level 36.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Baltoy was uncommonly found at Route 111, but it was more common in Emerald. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it could appear at Route 206 when using the Pokéradar. In HeartGold, they appeared at Route 3 during swarms.

Other Games

A Shadow Baltoy could be snagged from Cipher Peon Browsix at the Shadow Pokémon Laboratory in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and after being purified it could be transferred to the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be caught at the Wilderness in the Sapphire Field. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Secret Storage 8, Endless Level 13, Forever Level 13 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first four floors of Mt. Steel, the eleventh through fourteenth floors of Wish Cave, the eleventh through twentieth floors of Desert Region and the twelfth through twenty-second floors of Southern Cavern. It was also recruitable in Explorers of Time and Darkness at the first seven floors of Northern Desert.

In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Daybreak Ruins and the Thunder Temple. Baltoy also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Lava Zone and the Granite Zone.

• In the Pokémon anime, Baltoy was first featured in an episode of the Hoenn series belonging to a trainer named Calista. Tate and Liza were also shown to own a set of four Baltoy that they used to maintain a zero gravity field with Confusion. During the Sinnoh series, Buck owned a Baltoy as his main Pokémon, and it could sense treasure which it indicated by spinning.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Baltoy has made mostly minor appearances.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "balance" (due to the way it balances itself while spinning) and "toy" (because of its resemblance to a toy).
