Volbeat is a firefly-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is an exclusively male species, with its female counterpart being Illumise.
Information
Volbeat live near clear ponds and have tails which glow like lightbulbs at night. It flashes its tail to communicate with others. They also fly in swarms and use their tails to draw geometric shapes in the night sky. Volbeat moves its nest if the pond water becomes dirty. It is usually attracted by the scent of Illumise.

In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Volbeat was found at Route 118, being rare in Ruby and Emerald but more common in Sapphire. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it uncommonly appeared at Route 229 and was less common in Diamond.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it uncommonly appeared at the National Park during the Bug-Catching Contest on Thursdays after the National Pokédex was unlocked.
