Debut Punch-Out!!

Glass Joe is a French boxer known as being the first and easiest opponent in most of the Punch-Out!! games.

Background

Punch Out!!

His mediocre skills are evident from his initial records in the NES games, showing him to have participated in 99 matches with only 1 KO. In the original arcade version, he was ranked Number 9 in the World Video Boxing Association. He then appeared in both NES versions of Punch-Out!!, ranked Number 2 in the WVBA's Minor Circuit prior to his defeat at the hands of Little Mac. In his between-round conversations, he expressed either boredom or fear at the match, including pleading with Little Mac not to hit his jaw and also stating his intentions to retire following the match.

Presumably he followed through with his plans of retirement, as he did not appear in the ring again for a while. He was later mentioned as having trained Gabby Jay (another native of France) in his own boxing school, who took Joe's place as the bottom rung fighter in Super Punch-Out!!. Even Gabby was able to knock out Glass Joe in a match.

Glass Joe appears in Punch Out!! (back from retirement?), once again being the first opponent in the Minor Circuit. After his defeat he sees his doctor about returning to the ring; after his physical he is given a helmet and returns to challenge Little Mac, champion of the world, as the first challenger in Title Defense Mode. Because of his headgear, he can only be punched in the midsection or by using a star uppercut to knock off his helmet. Additionally, he uses a variety of fake-outs as well as varying the time he charges up his hooks in order to become a more challenging opponent.
