Volbeat is a firefly-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is an exclusively male species, with its female counterpart being Illumise.
Information[edit]
Volbeat live near clear ponds and have tails which glow like lightbulbs at night. It flashes its tail to communicate with others. They also fly in swarms and use their tails to draw geometric shapes in the night sky. Volbeat moves its nest if the pond water becomes dirty. It is usually attracted by the scent of Illumise.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Versions, Volbeat was found at Route 118, being rare in Ruby and Emerald but more common in Sapphire. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, it uncommonly appeared at Route 229 and was less common in Diamond.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it uncommonly appeared at the National Park during the Bug-Catching Contest on Thursdays after the National Pokédex was unlocked. It could also appear at the Safari Zone's Mountain area if enough Plains objects were present. Volbeat could also be caught at the Pokéwalker's Hoenn Field course, from which it could be transferred to HeartGold/SoulSilver. In Black, it appeared at Route 3 during swarms.
Other Games[edit]
Volbeat appeared in Pokémon Channel at Spingleaf Field. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it was found at the Plains on the Ruby Field, and it also painted in new areas for the Ruby Field during Travel Mode. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Huge Storage 1, Endless Level 5, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could be recruited at the first six floors of Northwind Field and the first seven floors of Upper Steam Cave.
