Auru is an older man who appears as a supporting character in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Backgrounds[edit]

In the past, Auru was connected to the Royal Family of Hyrule, and in the Japanese version was said to have tutored Princess Zelda in her youth. This position and his conversations with the sages helped him to learn much about Hyrulian lore. Auru seemed to have seen his fair share of adventure throughout his life, although there was not much elaboration on this beyond his having saved Fyer's life once in the past. Auru was also acquainted with Telma (and most likely Rusl, Shad and Ashei) as well, which led to him becoming part of her "group" that operated behind the scenes during the Twilight Realm crisis. He acted as their senior member, and despite his age, he was still in a good enough physical condition to be an asset to the team.

When they initially met with Link, after Auru had been shocked by the news of Queen Rutela's death, Auru coldly chastised him for entering the bar when they had closed it to keep their meeting private, and he assumed that Link was an inexperienced fighter. Auru believed that the evil which was threatening Hyrule was connected with the cursed mirror at the Arbiter's Grounds that he had heard about from the sages. Auru met with Link by Lake Hylia and told him what he knew about the Arbiter's Grounds and the Gerudo Desert. He also apologized to Link for his rudeness in their first meeting, as he had heard of all of Link's deeds from Telma. When Link agreed to investigate the desert, Auru gave him a memo for Fyer so that he would give him a free cannon ride to the desert, as this was apparently the most convenient way. Auru returned to Telma's bar afterwards and was glad to see Link was alive and well. He also told Link about the sages and lamented the sad state of Hyrule Castle, while reaffirming their group's goals to restore peace ot Hyrule.

The group later showed up at Hyrule Castle to help take out a group of enemies for Link. Auru wielded the most powerful weapon out of the group, which appeared to be some type of rocket launcher. During the ending credits, he was shown to be helping Shad explore the ruins of the Temple of Time along with Ashei.

Trivia[edit]

  • His name is notably derived from Rauru's name, and he somewhat resembles a somewhat younger version of Rauru. It is uncertain, but he could possibly be a descendant of Rauru.
  • While in the Japanese version he states that he was Zelda's tutor (which explains his tie to the Royal Family), in the English version he instead refers to the sages as her tutors. Other English supplementary materials (such as the Prima player's guide) go with him being the tutor.
  • According to supplementary materials, he is between 60 and 70 years old.
