The Roc's Cape is a special cape that appears in several The Legend of Zelda games and is usually depicted as an advanced version of Roc's Feather. Like the feather, Link can use it to jump into the air, but the cape also allows Link to briefly glide through the air. This allows Link to cover more distance and clear larger gaps, and like Roc's Feather the distance could be further enhanced when used with items like the Pegasus Boots.
Appearances
The Roc's Cape first appeared in Oracle of Seasons, where it was found in the Explorer's Crypt. In Four Swords, it appeared in various places as a common item. In The Minish Cap, the cape was found at the Palace of Winds. Link can then learn the Down Thrust from Swiftblade, which allows him to thrust down with a sword attack from midair.
Other Appearances
Other Media
- In the manga adaption of The Minish Cap, Link was given a special Cucco feather by Librari which could temporarily transform into Roc's Cape.
Trivia
- As with the feather, it seems to be named after a mythological bird called the Roc and might also be related to one of the bird enemies in the games that have also been named after the Roc (such as the Kargaroc and Helmaroc King.
- Oddly enough, it is only actually an upgrade of Roc's Feather in its initial appearance. In its later appearance, the cape is used independently without the feather, and Four Swords Adventures instead has a Level 2 Roc's Feather as the upgraded version of the feather.
- It shares a parallel with the Cape Feather power-up from the Mario series, as both involve ordinary-looking feathers which become yellow capes capable of gliding with.
