Bot
Type Blob
Debut Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

The Bot is a weak, blob-like creature that is featured as the most common and basic enemy within Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Its weaker version is known as a Bit.

Information[edit]

The Bot looks like a small blob with eyes. They are widespread throughout Hyrule and appear in nearly all environments. Bots are weak creatures, and in some cases they will appear to be backing away from the larger enemies, in many cases they will try to blindly pounce at them. They still initially take two hits from a sword to be destroyed. Bots are primarily blue. The red version is known as the Bit. It is weaker, less mobile and much less common. There are also purple Bots which are slightly stronger and found only in the Great Palace. Additionally, there is one non-hostile purple Bot living at Bagu's home in the Water Town of Saria. If awakened, the Bot will give Link directions to Bagu's location in the swamp to get Link to leave him alone, referring to Bagu as his "master". Additionally, some dungeons have volatile red liquid dripping down from the ceiling. Some drips are bluish in color, and these form into Bots upon landing on the ground.

The master of the Bots is the Bot Master, which appears at the Great Palace. It is a giant version of the Bot that tries to drop down on Link from the ceiling. Hitting it will cause it to split into five normal-sized Bots, but they are still more powerful than most Bots. The only Bot appearance outside of Zelda II is at the end of Link's Awakening, when the first form assumed by the final boss is that of a Shadow Bot (but referred to as a Shadow Gel in English editions). It is around the size of the Bot Master and attacks similarly. This enemy is actually the easiest to defeat, as the Nightmare will shift into its next form when sprinkled with Magic Powder three times.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Zelda II, the spell known only as Spell could be used to transform some enemies into Bots.
