Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars is a puzzle-based adventure game that was released as a downloadable purchase through the eShop for both the 3DS and the Wii U in 2015. It is the sixth game of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, as well as being the first in this subseries to be released for the Wii U and for home consoles in general.
Story[edit]
Pauline has apparently been captured by Donkey Kong yet again. Mario decides to send his Mini Mario toys to pursue him.
Gameplay[edit]
This game features gameplay similar to other games in the series, in which the player must guide Mini Mario toys safely to the goal of each level to progress, while avoiding different obstacles and enemies. This game returns to a 2-D view after the previous installment experimented with a three-dimensional environment. Unlike previous games, instead of boss battles, each world ends in a confrontation with a Cursed Mini Mario, which has to be restored to normal by attacking it, at which point it could be guided to the exit.
Like previous games, this one featured a Workshop mode in which players could create custom levels. These levels could be freely exchanged between the 3DS and Wii U versions. It was also possible to share levels online through the Miiverse community until it was shut down in November 2017.
Legacy[edit]
Sequels[edit]
In 2016, it was followed by Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge, which was also released for the 3DS and Wii U. This game moved away from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong concept entirely to focus on the Mini Toys and featured amiibo compatibility.
