Super Mario Galaxy is the first 3-D Mario adventure on the Nintendo Wii, which features Mario traveling through space.
Story
In the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach and the citizens celebrate a centennial event in which a comet passes over the kingdom and rains down magical stars and stardust. However, the celebration is disrupted when Bowser attacks with his legions. Peach is captured again by Bowser, who tows her castle into space with alien spacecraft, and in a botched attempt to foil Bowser as usual, Mario winds being teleported to a mysterious moon far from home.
Mario meets with several Lumas and their leader, Rosalina. They empower Mario with the new abilities that allow him to travel through space by allowing Lumas to aid him. Rosalina also needs help, as her Comet Observatory was robbed of its power by Bowser. So Mario sets out to explore various galaxies, seeking the many Power Stars as well as the seven Grand Stars for powering the Comet Observatory with the promise that once its full power is restored, it will be used to hunt down Bowser and rescue the princess.
Gameplay
The game is controlled with the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk together. The buttons are used to help Mario perform some moves. The remote itself can be used as a pointer to grab Star Bits (which can be tossed at enemy or fed to hungry Lumas), and shaking the controller can cause Mario to perform a spin attack. A second player can aid the first player by using a Wiimote to collect Star Bits and throw them at enemies.
In the game Mario travels along various spherical mini-planet, and he is launched from planet to planet by special cannon-like stars found on each planet. Classic power-ups such as the Super Mushroom, Fire Flower and Starman return. Additionally, there are new power-ups including a Bee Mushroom, Spring Mushroom, an Ice Flower and a Mushroom that will turn Mario into a Boo.
