Game Freak is the second party developer responsible for the Pokemon franchise. During it's early history, it developed games for various other publishers, but favored Nintendo. By the time Pokemon was released, they were a second party. Once Pokemon hit stores, they kept developing that frnachise, though they have done one non-Pokemon game since then (Drill Dozer).
