Brownie Brown is a game studio funded by Nintendo. Their name, Brownie Brown, is taken from their mascot. Brown is a brownie, a hardworking elf.
History
Most of Brownie Brown's employees are former Square-Enix 2D artists who had worked on The Legend of Mana. It's two founders had worked on the Mana series on both the Gameboy and Super Nintendo.
Since joining Nintendo, Brownie Brown has started their own series of RPGs, the Magical Vacation series. They also work on other people's projects. They helped with Mother 3 and have developed two Mana games on the Gameboy Advance for Square-Enix.
Though Brownie Brown has only developed for handhelds so far, they announced that they are working on a game called Gofuku on the Gamecube. However, it's been a longtime since anyone has heard about it. It's assumed that the game has been moved to the Wii or simply canceled.
