Dragonair is an elegant dragon Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It is the middle stage of Dratini's evolutionary line and evolves into Dragonite.

Information[edit]

Dragonair evolves from Dratini at Level 30. It is a mystical Pokémon that exudes a gentle aura and has the ability to change climate conditions. This effect apparently comes from the enormous energy within its body when it channels this energy through the the crystalline orbs on located on its neck and tail. Dragonair has been called the divine Pokémon.

They are said to live in lakes and rivers. Although they lack wings, they have occasionally been seen flying. Dragonair will eventually evolve into Dragonite at Level 55.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen, Dragonair could be fished with the Super Rod at the Safari Zone, being uncommon in Yellow and rare in FireRed/LeafGreen. In Gold, Silver and Crystal, it was uncommonly found by fishing at Route 14 and Dragon's Den. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Dragonair could be rarely fished at Dragon's Den and the Safari Zone's Swamp area (when enough Water objects were placed there).

In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Dragonair was rarely found by fishing at the fourth floor of Mt. Coronet. In Black and White, Dragonair appeared rarely when fishing outside Dragonspiral Tower and was a bit more common in fishing spots.

Other Games[edit]

It could only be gained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball. It was also featured as Clair's Pokémon in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 14 and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, Dragonair could be recruited at the twelfth through twentieth floors of Wyvern Hill. In Explorers of Time and Darkness, it was recruitable at the eighth through ninth basement floors of Brine Cave and the first five basement floors of Lower Brine Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Almia Castle. Dragonair also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Windy Prairie.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, one episode featured a Dratini at a lake in the Safari Zone which the warden protected, and at the end of the episode it had evolved into a Dragonair. It defeated Team Rocket with ease and was shown to have a Dratini child. During the Johto series, Clair's Dratini also evolved into a Dragonair at the end of an episode, an during her gym battle with Ash it defeated Pikachu but ultimately lost to Ash's Charizard.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Dragonair were primarily shown in the Yellow arc as Lance's Pokémon. It was first seen in one chapter where Yellow entered a racing contest with a Dragonair as the prize, but it turned out to be a trap as the Dragonair was Lance's, and he had it attack the racers. Yellow also lost to it in battle. Lance was shown to have several more Dragonair during the battle at Cerise Island.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is simply a combination of "dragon" and "air" or possibly "debonair" (due to Dragonair's noted gracefulness).
