Hyrule is the primary setting for Link and Princess Zelda's battles with the evil Ganon throughout the The Legend of Zelda series. It is a kingdom with a long and rich history that is deeply connected to the Golden Goddesses and the Triforce that they left behind. It has contained the hidden entrance to the Sacred Realm and is where the Master Sword has rested.

Within the alternate timeline produced by the ending of Ocarina of Time, Hyrule was later destroyed by a great flood, but a new Hyrule was later founded by Tetra. Hyrule's geography has differed from game to game, but several landmarks such as Death Mountain and Lake Hylia have acted as constant landmarks. The upcoming game Skyward Sword seems to focus on Hyrule's early history and its connection with the mysterious sky world Skyloft.
