Zelda Game & Watch is a 1989 Game & Watch game starring characters from The Legend of Zelda.
Story
Eight dragons - each in possession of a piece of the Triforce - have appeared and begun causing havoc with their damage increasing daily. Having refused to live in peace with man, they have resolved to rule the world. After they kidnap Princess Zelda, the hero Link sets out to to destroy the dragons.
Information
The game has Link battle his way past Stalfos, Ghini, and Moblin enemies on the lower screen, using the various items he can find, such as a Tomahawk, a map, and the Water of Life. Once he clears all the enemies, he will proceed to fight the dragon on the top screen - using the tomahawk (if he has it) for increased damage. The game plays more like a platformer, like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. When Link uses his sword, the shield goes to his back to block attacks, adding a level of strategy to fighting.
Rereleases
- In 1998, Toymax Inc. rereleased Zelda Game & Watch along with a variety of other Game & Watch games. This version was condensed on to one screen and used artwork from A Link to the Past and Four Swords Adventures.
- In 2002, the game was included as a special unlockable in Game & Watch Gallery 4 where the game was unchanged, save for being condensed in different ways to fit on one screen.
Trivia
- In the instruction, Stalfos is the only enemy named. Moblins are simply called "Goblin" and Ghinis as "Ghosts", though their artwork significantly resembles their NES counterparts. It's possible the dragons are meant to be Aquamentus, though the resemblance is less apparent.
